Inventory of Solitude

In this work I set out to create a dissonance between two ways of knowing — the grid of paint dabs on the left imposes order, repetition, and the cold comfort of enumeration, while the figure on the right resists all of that, folding inward into a contemplative stillness that no computer or spreadsheet can quantify. I was drawn to the question of what we count, what we measure, and what inevitably escapes those efforts — and I chose the cool cyan to suggest that the figure and the grid inhabit the same world, even as they speak entirely different languages. Also, I seem to just like cyan-blue!
