Feuille Morte sur Bleu

The depth of field is shallow, and sections of the undulating leaf are tack-sharp and loaded with detailed texture while other sections transition gently into softness. The curl of the leaf on the edges is a nice touch. For the background texture, it is a stained, distressed, antique leather book I inherited from family, and it is colorized to the complementary cyan/blue. For the deckled edge look, I tore a piece of watercolor paper, photographed it, and used its edge as a layer in Photoshop. (Yep, there are "easier" ways to get that effect!).

I photographed this leaf and started this composition in 2009. I had tucked it away, but always admired this image and thought about it from time to time. I rediscovered the image file in 2022, and I remastered it to make this compelling print with great color. Camera: Canon 30D or 40D.
