Correspondances

Correspondances is a loose reference to a poem by Baudelaire. 

I captured this image at my dining room table on an overcast October afternoon. Soft, cool, northern light oozed reluctantly through the windows. At that time of year, the feuilles mortes are abundant, and a nuisance for many, yet they always capture my attention - all those veins, subtle colors, textures, and the rustling sounds they make in the wind. I had just brought home a Ricoh GR3 camera and was trying out its macro capabilities. I converted this frame, with it's shallow depth of field, to monochrome to strip away the distraction of autumn color and let the pure geometry and textures speak for themselves.

Fun fact: I happened to have a vintage Kodak "Sensitized Paper" box at hand. Inside was a very old and gray sheet of Glassine paper with a subtle ripple texture. I used it as the background for this shot.
