The sun had just dipped below the horizon, and it was quiet in the house. She waited by the window, peeking through the curtains when cars passed by. Maybe the next one, she thought, sipping the cool chardonnay, condensation dripping on her thigh. She wiped her lip with the back of her hand, and a breeze lifted the gauzy curtain like a whisper.
